Four members of the Tower Health-Reading Hospital team have received national recognition from Becker’s Hospital Review for their professional achievements.

  • Suzanne Wenderoth, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Tower Health Hospital in Reading, was named to the list of Chief Medical Officers (CMO) to Know.
  • H. Christopher Lawson, Director, Division of Neurologic Surgery at Reading Hospital, was named to the list of Black Healthcare Leaders to Know.
  • Desha Dickson, Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Community Health at Tower Health, was named to the list of Outstanding Officers, Equity, and Inclusion to Know.
  • Melanie Stutzman-Ricci, Vice President, Support Services, was named to the Supply Chain Leaders to Know list.

“I am very proud that the outstanding talents of Dr. Wenderoth, Dr. Lawson, Ms. Dickson, and Ms. Stutzman-Ricci have been recognized by a national health care publication,” said P. Sue Perrotty, Tower Health CEO. “These awards show that our team members are among the best in the country. Their role and unique perspectives are critical to the continued success and well-being of our patients and community. ”

Chief Medical Officers (CMO) to Know

Chief Medical Officers are responsible for leading safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery in their hospitals and health systems, according to Becker’s. They serve as champions of patient safety, professional liaisons for medical staff and leadership, and forces for positive change.

Dr. Wenderoth, a practicing physician, is responsible for the Medical Offices and Central Evidence, and ensures compliance of Tower Health’s physicians and providers. He oversees Care Management, Population Health, Utilization Review, Tower Health and Reading Hospital programs, as well as quality and safety measures related to length of stay, patient utilization, readmissions, and change of care. Additionally, he is a member of the Tower Health Providers Board of Directors and the Reading Area Community College Board of Trustees.

Dr. “We have an extraordinary group of physicians and providers of advanced training throughout Tower Health,” Wenderoth said. “It is my privilege to represent them in my role as CMO and to work with them as we look after all members of our community.”

Black Health Leaders to Know

Diversity in leadership, especially at the executive level, provides health care organizations with a broader perspective and deeper understanding of their patients and staff, according to Becker’s. These leaders work hard to advance their organizations and communities, and this list honors them for their commitment to health equity and the health care sector.

Dr. Lawson is the Director of our Department of Neurosurgery at Reading Hospital. She is committed to providing services and education, and participates in community events to discuss advances in care available in the health care system. “Being a part of Reading Hospital is important to me, and our team members are very important to the success of our program,” Dr. Lawson said. “Treating our patients and improving their quality of life is my passion.”

Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officers

DEI officials are instrumental in addressing health disparities, promoting inclusive workforce practices, creating business resource groups, and providing valuable educational training, according to Becker’s. Their efforts are important to change the health conditions.

Within the health and community system, Ms. Dickson is a highly respected leader and consultant. He is also a passionate advocate for patients, staff and the surrounding community. In her role as DEI’s Vice President of Public Health, she leads the organization’s efforts to increase diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness within the health care system. He and his team are instrumental in developing and implementing projects with community partners to improve public health through new methods of health education and community involvement.

“I am proud of this recognition from Becker’s because it recognizes all the important work that the DEI team and the councils have done,” Ms Dickson said. “The community we serve has my promise that we will continue to do this important work.”

Supply Chain Leaders to Know

Supply chain leaders oversee the back-end processes that ensure their hospitals and healthcare systems operate without disrupting patient care. With years of experience in healthcare supply chain management, these leaders drive cost savings, develop partnerships, and drive logistics.

Ms. Stutzman-Ricci is a Certified Nephrology Nurse Practitioner by practice and background. This experience allows him to help translate the clinic into business, providing insight and expertise when needed. With the help of his leadership, the Supply Chain team has been involved in solving major supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. By implementing a strategic sourcing strategy and improving inventory management processes, the team has been able to ensure the continuous availability of critical resources while ensuring that supplies are not is it damaged.

“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve Tower Health and the surrounding communities,” said Mrs. Stutzman-Ricci. “The exciting changes taking place at Tower (Health) are complimented by an experienced and highly engaged team that I have the privilege of working with.”
